London’s Stansted Airport enjoys the use of a single terminal area which allows over twenty million passengers to use its services and fly each year. The airline serves as a base to over forty different airline operators.
 
Stansted is the United Kingdom’s fourth biggest airport and first breathed life in 1942 where it was employed as a base for bombers in operation throughout World War Two. The later phenomenal growth of the package holiday industry in the 1960′s led to many using the airport within all inclusive holidays and flights, meaning Stansted became an extremely popular airport.
 
This led to Stansted being crowned with the title of the third most significant airport in the capital. Later, local protesters from nearby communities complained regarding potential expansion plans of the airport and were responsible for development work being cancelled.
 
In later years however, Stansted was further expanded as significant issues on a worldwide basis meant other airport possibilities were too costly. The British Airports Authority implemented initial terminal upgrades in 1969 and further work was performed to extend this in 1972. The middle of the 1980′s period found Stansted once again involved in an expansive process. During 1986, planned works were initiated on the main terminal which were completed in 1991.
 
Stansted Airport is today a significant presence within all UK airports across the country and it has developed to now incorporate the popular and frequent use of many of the UK’s cheaper budget airlines. Stansted’s air services travel to around one hundred and sixty different locations over a worldwide area.
