Belfast hosts Ireland’s leading technologically based airport, proudly offering one terminal to its visitors and serving around five million individuals yearly. With a history dating back to 1917, the Royal Flying Corps first occupied the area providing a training ground for pilots within the era of the First World War. 1925 saw the introduction of the Ulster Squadron RAF, created at the airport site in Aldergrove, which then led to a national airport in use from around 1934. That same year saw the introduction of Northern Ireland’s initial London bound flight, but the forthcoming Second World War once again necessitated the need for the RAF to again form a base from the airport.
 
The mid 1960′s period bore witness to a regularly operating flight to London Gatwick and just two years later, services were put into place in flying to New York, USA. The age of the seventies found the airport benefiting from a three million pound development fund and in 1983 the ever expanding airport was completed and given a new name, ‘Belfast International Airport’.
 
Budget airline operator ‘easy jet’ introduced its flights from the airport in 1998, which complimented other existing airline operators already in location. Towards the present day, the airport has grown in stature, reputation for quality and accessibility, making it a prominent and popular airport of choice.
